On Saturday, Canelo Álvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) defeated now former WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) to take the belt.
The fight lasted eleven rounds, but ended when Canelo dropped Kovalev to his knees with a strong combination.
With the win, Álvarez now becomes the first boxer in history to hold world titles in three divisions at the same time.
“I’m very thankful,” Alvarez told CBS News. “This is just a step in my career and my history, and all I ask of you is to be patient because Canelo will make history. That is guaranteed.”
